Ulcinj (Montenegro) - vacation, beaches, attractions
This is the southernmost point of the country, near Albania. Here you will see a completely different Montenegro, there are few Montenegrins, the Albanian part of the population prevails. Ulcinj gets undeservedly little attention from tourists, although, in our opinion, there are the best beaches, the warmest climate and the most inexpensive prices in Montenegro. Let's take a closer look at the nuances of spending vacation in Ulcinj.
So, the pros and cons of vacation in Ulcinj:
Pros
1. Firstly, there are beautiful and large sandy beaches of fine dark grey ocean sand. Velika Plaža is extended by 13 km. and goes to the open sea, is 4 km far from the Ulcinj. At the end of this beach Ada Bojana river meets the sea, there is shallow water up to 400m. from the shore. There is also a nude beach. Mala Plaža has a length of 400 m. and is located in the city. In addition, around the city there are 18 beautiful bays and a large number of small rocky beaches.
2. On the Velika Plaža, even in the high season you will find free sun beds and places in the beach cafes / restaurants. This also attracts lovers of kite surfing from around the world, for beginners there are instructors.
3. It is the southernmost city in the country on the border with Albania, where the water warms up faster and longer cools. Usually 1-2 degrees air temperature is higher than in the rest of the resort of Montenegro.
4. A sufficient number of travel agencies and rental companies in Ulcinj, and to Albanian resort town Shkodra is only 42 km.
5. Convenient for a beach holiday with young children, if the hotel is located not far from the beach.
6. In the city center there are several nightclubs.
7. Prices for accommodation, meals, beach service for tourists, are on average 40% lower than in Budva.
8. The beautiful old town.
Well, about the cons do not forget
1. Someone may dislike but Ulcinj is a Muslim part of the country, which is predominantly populated by ethnic Albanians.
2. Compared with the rest of Montenegro there is a bit "dirtier" in the city and surrounding area.
3. Even a slight sea breeze in an open 13-kilometre stretch of Velika Plaža in cold weather felt like a strong wind and causes discomfort. On the other side it is a plus for kite surfers.
4. The city is the furthest from the airports of Montenegro, so transfer to Ulcinj will be the most expensive for you.
5. More expensive will be and individual / group tours, due to more mileage.
To summarize, in our subjective opinion, summer-autumn holidays in Ulcinj are the best option in terms of price and quality. Moreover, such warm water, pleasant fine sea sand, adequate prices for accommodation and meals are nowhere else in Montenegro!
